For those of you who want to make gifts for your friends (preferably one’s that are having babies) but want something simple, I give you a really easy bootie pattern. The hat pattern is slightly more complicated, but really good if you want to learn how to do double knitting. The hat can also be made flat and then sewn up with a seam.
Remember you can also make these for our donations to the NICU, but make sure to use acrylic yarn instead of the suggested Knit Picks yarn below.
I have found that most yarn works quite well for these booties.
I used Knit Picks yarn:
- Swish Superwash – Sand Dune
- Swish DK – Bordeaux
For the hat, I made up a pattern

1. Cast on 72 stitches with both colors together on size 7 double pointed needles.
2. Using Double Knitting I made the border for the hat and then finished knitting using only the Sand Dune color.
3. I decreased the hat and made a little point by knitting the last 6 stitches for 2 inches.
And this pattern for the booties. But because it is such an easy pattern, here is a step by step with pictures.
1. Cast on 24 stitches on size 7 needles and knit in stockinette stitch for about 3 inches.

2. Knit two together for a final 12 stitches.

3. Thread end through a yarn needle and pass through 12 stitches, pull tightly and go through the stitches again.

4. Sew up halfway leaving a large enough opening for the foot.

5. Sew up the back of the foot.

6. Pick out your favorite ribbon and thread through stitches using yarn needle. Make a nice bow and Tada!
